Full-time position (with benefits) available at Canyon Manor Mental Health Rehabilitation Center in Marin County.
This full-time therapist position requires a minimum of four years’ experience in a psychosocial treatment setting, BS or BA degree preferred, and a valid California drivers’ license (preferably with a Class II capability); occupational therapists are strongly encouraged to apply. Canyon Manor is licensed as a locked 24-hour Mental Health Rehabilitation Center, which has treated over 2700 severely and persistently mentally disordered clients in 37-plus years of continuous service. Their Co-Occurring Disorders Program has been serving residents with both mental illness and chemical dependency issues for over 25 years.

This three-hour presentation will begin with a discussion of how aging affects select areas of occupational performance, performance skills, performance patterns and client factors, and explores how unique contexts influence older adults’ occupational performance. We will explore emotional states frequently experienced by older adults and the universal structures that can help us better understand clients’ distress and challenging behaviors. Specific techniques to manage difficult situations will be provided. Concepts from the existential humanistic frame of reference will be introduced to further participants’ understanding of older adults’ occupational performance and to remind all participants of the joys of client-centeredness. Job duties include client evaluation, assessment, treatment planning/implementation, and discharge instructions.
