Program Description
This workshop will provide participants with an overview and introduction to the use of mindfulness as a therapeutic tool in clinical practice, with an emphasis in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Strategies to use with patients/clients will be shared along with resources for further learning.

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Define mindfulness and mindfulness-based interventions
- Describe the structure of mindfulness-based interventions
- Learn strategies for introducing mindfulness to patients/clients
- Know where to access resources for further learning.

Presenter Bio
Donna Costa, DHS, OTR/L, FAOTA is currently an Associate Professor on the faculty of the Department of Occupational Therapy at Touro University Nevada. Dr. Costa has a strong clinical background in mental health occupational therapy practice along with program development and administration skills, and extensive teaching experience. She currently teaches entry-level occupational therapy courses in research, leadership, and psychosocial practice and has recent experience in teaching post-professional doctoral level courses and mentoring graduate students’ research projects. She also currently teaches preparation courses for the Occupational Therapy Certification Exam. She has authored numerous publications over her 40-year career, most recently in the areas of occupational therapy fieldwork education and mindfulness-based stress reduction. Donna is a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association and also the current chair of the AOTA Special Interest Section Council.

Attendance will be capped at 25 persons; admission cannot be guaranteed without preregistration; if we are sold out and you are late, we will give your seat to someone who has already arrived.
Pay at the door: $25 for POTAC & members; $40 for nonmembers; students $10; Priority registration to POTACÂ &Â OTAC members; DUC faculty and students free as available. Checks or cash only, no credit cards.
Certificates of Attendance will be provided to qualify for PDUs – 3 contact hours. A percentage of all proceeds go to the Kim Aspelund Memorial Scholarship.
