Program Description
This seminar will cover the common sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia. We will cover prevalence across sex and age groups, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms. Treatment modalities will be discussed in detail. The presentations will include an evidence-based review of the most recent research findings and recommendations. Understanding sleep disorders and its impact on various conditions will improve Occupational Therapists’ ability to provide excellent patient care.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Understand the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults and children
- Understand the impact of OSA on mental health and learn the proper screening methods for OSA
- Understand the prevalence and impact of insomnia on patients suffering from mental illness, and
- Learn basic techniques to address symptoms of insomnia and provide coping strategies.
Presenter’s Bio
Dr. Masri is a sleep medicine and neurology specialist with a post-medical degree fellowship from the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine. He works with patients who suffer from sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, parasomnia, and restless leg syndrome, among others. In his practice he uses cognitive behavioral therapy techniques.

Pay at the door: $25 for POTAC & OTAC members; $40 for non-members; students $10. Checks or cash only, no credit cards.

Certificates of Attendance will be provided to qualify for PDUs – 3 contact hours. A percentage of all proceeds goes to the Kim Aspelund Memorial Scholarship.
